Things to do
Taroko National Park
The Taroko National Park is one of nine national parks in the Republic of China, located in the east of the island of Taiwan. It was named after the Taroko Gorge, which in turn was named after the Truku indigenous people. With 4.5 million visitors, the park was the second most visited in Taiwan in 2016.
Sun Moon Lake
The Sun Moon Lake is the largest inland body of water in Taiwan at 7.5 – 8 square kilometers. It is located 760 meters above sea level on the western slope of the Central Mountains in the rural community of Yuchi in the district of Nantou. Its deepest point is 27 meters.
Jiufen
Jiufen is a mountain town in the Ruifang district of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. It is located about 10 km east of Keelung near the northeast coast of Taiwan on the East China Sea.
National Palace Museum
The National Palace Museum is an art gallery and museum in Taipei, Taiwan. Established in Beijing in 1925, the museum houses the world’s largest collection of priceless Chinese artworks, spanning 8,000 years of continental East Asia’s history. Most of the 697,490 objects were originally part of the Imperial Art Collection assembled by Qing Emperor Qianlong. The exhibits originated in the Forbidden City and were brought to Taiwan by Chiang Kai-shek when he fled the mainland in 1949. Only the finest pieces from the imperial collection are preserved here. Even so, this treasure is far too extensive to be displayed all at once. Many of the particularly valued pieces are on permanent display. However, most of the collection of jade, porcelain, paintings and bronzes are regularly exchanged.
Yangmingshan National Park
Yangmingshan National Park is one of the nine national parks in Taiwan, located in both Taipei and New Taipei City. The districts that are partially in the park include Taipei’s Beitou and Shilin Districts; and New Taipei’s Wanli, Jinshan, Sanzhi and Tamsui Districts. The national park is known for its cherry blossoms, hot springs, sulfur deposits, fumaroles, venomous snakes, and hiking trails, including Taiwan’s tallest dormant volcano, Qixing (Seven Star) Mountain rising to 1,120 m (3,675 ft).
National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall
The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a building in central Taipei, Taiwan built to commemorate Chiang Kai-shek, the long-time president and chief military officer of the Republic of China. The monument is surrounded by a park and stands at the east end of a square flanked by the National Theater Hall and the National Concert Hall.
Ximending
Ximending is an international entertainment district in northeastern Wanhua District, Taipei, Taiwan.Ximending has been called the “Harajuku of Taipei” and the “Shibuya of Taipei”.Ximending is the source of Taiwan’s fashion, subculture, and Japanese culture. Ximending has a host of clubs and pubs in the surrounding area. This area is in the northeastern part of Wanhua District in Taipei and it is also the most important consumer district in the Western District of Taipei. The well-known Ximending Pedestrian Area was the first pedestrian area built in Taipei and is the largest in Taiwan.
Mengjia Longshan-Tempel-Taipei
Bangka Lungshan Temple (also Lungshan Temple of Manka, Mengjia Longshan Temple) is a Chinese folk religious temple in Wanhua District (alternately known as Bangka/Mengjia), Taipei, Taiwan. The temple was built in Taipei in 1738 by settlers from Fujian during Qing rule in honor of Guanyin. It served as a place of worship and a gathering place for the Chinese settlers. In addition to its Buddhist elements, it includes halls and altars to Chinese deities such as Mazu and Guan Yu.This temple originated its name from the ancient Lungshan Temple established in Chin-chiang county of Fukien province in the seventh century.
Alishan
Alishan Township is a mountain indigenous township in Chiayi County, Taiwan. The Alishan National Scenic Area covers most, but not all, of the township and also parts of neighboring townships. Alishan is traditional territory of the headhunting Tsou people, whose rich oral histories describe the migrations of each ancient clans’ ancestors into the area between Yushan and the Chianan Plain. Originally, each clan had its own settlement, with the first multi-clan town, Tfuya, only forming approximately 1600 CE.The earliest written record of the Tsou dates from the Dutch occupation, which describes Tfuya as having approximately 300 people in 1647. Ethnologists have attempted to reconstruct the development of Tfuya, proposing that each stage of clan migration could be equivalent to three or four generations of family.
Tiger and Dragon Pagodas
The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas is a temple located at Lotus Lake in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The temple was built in 1976. One of the towers is the Tiger Tower, the other one being the Dragon tower. The seven story tower has yellow walls, red pillars and orange tiles. The front connects to the shore with a bridge. There are paintings inside the temple depicting Ksitigarbha. In the Tiger Tower, there are paintings of twelve Magi and the Jade Emperor’s thirty palaces as well as paintings of Confucius. The towers have a double spiral staircase, one each for ascending and descending visitors. This building is representative of traditional Kaohsiung culture. Overlooking the towers are the Small Tortoise mountains, Spring and Autumn Pavilions, 5-mile Pavilion and Pei Chi Pavilion, as well as a surrounding lake.
Chimei Museum
The Chimei Museum was founded in 1992 by entrepreneur Shi Wen-Long in Tainan, Taiwan. The museum has been located in a park in the Rende district since 2014. The Chimei Museum collections include five categories: Western Art; Musical instruments, natural history, weapons and armor, antiques and artifacts.
Qixingtan Beach
The Qixingtan Beach or Chihsingtan Beach is a beach in Xincheng Township, Hualien County, Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean.Qixingtan Beach was originally located at the east of Hualien airport. Its shape is like the Big Dipper, so it is called Qixingtan. Back in 1936, Japanese government filled the lake in order to build the Hualien airport, and now there are only four ponds left.
Japanese government forced the residents who lived at the original Qixingtan to move to “Crescent Bay”. The residents named the place Qixingtan in memory of the original Qixingtan.circular reference
In June 2009, officials from Hualien County Government made a proposal to the Department of Environmental Protection to abolish the Qixingtan Environmental Impact Statement. Consequently, this led to the construction of private and large-scale development projects at the beach.
2/28 Peace Park
The 228 Peace Memorial Park is a historic site and municipal park located at 3 Ketagalan Boulevard, Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan. The park contains memorials to victims of the February 28 Incident of 1947, including the 228 Memorial Monument that stands at the center of the park and the Taipei 228 Memorial Museum, housed at the site of a former radio station that operated under Japanese and Kuomintang rule. The National Taiwan Museum stands at the park’s north entrance. The park also has a bandshell and exercise areas.
Liberty Square Arch
Liberty Square (also Freedom Square) is a public plaza covering over 240,000 square meters in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei, Taiwan. It has served as the city’s public gathering place of choice since its completion in the late 1970s. The name of the square recalls the important historical role it played in Taiwan’s transition from one-party rule to modern democracy in the 1990s.Liberty Square serves as a major site for public gatherings in Taipei and is home to three major landmarks as well as civic parks. At the east end of Liberty Square stands the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. The square is flanked by the National Concert Hall on the north and the National Theater on the south. A park surrounds the plaza and a wall surrounds the site. The square sits within sight of the Presidential Office Building.
Taichung Park
The Taichung Park is an urban park in North District, Taichung, Taiwan. It is the oldest park in Taichung. It was built when Taiwan was under Japanese rule and is also called. The park, originally called Nakanoshima kōen , was built in 1903 during the Japanese era. On 17 April 1999, Taichung City Government listed it as city historical sites. In recent years, people have celebrated Lantern Festival in Taichung Park. The park has an artificial lake which covers an area of 13,530 m2. It also has two adjacent pavilions in the lake which were built to commemorate the establishment of Crossway Railway in 1908.
